Interior Design Show 2019

The 2019 Interior Design Show was one of my favourites to date (see 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018). This year’s event stood out for me not because of the many exciting vendors, but the fantastic keynote speakers and presentations: most notably, a seminar on inclusive design by Kat Holmes of mismatch.design – about how in design, disability is mismatched human interaction, and these mismatches form the building blocks of exclusion. She explained how designers tend to design with ability bias, meaning they design for their own abilities as opposed to those of everyone else, and urged the room to break the cycle of exclusion. Her lecture provided fascinating perspective on a world we—or myself at least—take for granted. The following photos are products and/or visuals that caught my eye. Each year at IDS, I spend a few hours meandering the trade-show floor admiring the beautiful booth designs, collecting swag, and networking with the talented creators showcasing their work. Looking forward to what IDS 2020 has to offer, see you there!
